Product Development/Engineering - Body Glove


This entry-level position in Product Development participates in the development and launch of mobile accessories including phone cases, tablet cases, screen protectors, and other mobile accessories in a very fast paced industry. The Project Engineer will be responsible for managing very tight timelines for new products and line extensions by working directly with vendors in Asia as well as cross functionally within the organization.  The objective of the position is to support the flawless execution of new product launches that maintain the business team objectives and strategies.


Key responsibilities
• Drives customer related product development timelines through an abbreviated gate process to meet launch of new devices (phones & tablets)
• Manages multiple simultaneous projects to ensure timelines are met in a fast paced industry


Product Development Execution
• Learns and follows consumer, competitive, and technology trends
• Ability to organize and manage multiple projects to ensure all tasks are completed with a sense of urgency
• Develops & maintains detailed product development timelines and meets target milestones
• Evaluates technical capability of suppliers for meeting manufacturing quality
• Collaborates with the Industrial Design team on detailed product specs
• Provides alternative options when faced with obstacles during concept development
• Able to troubleshoot problems using engineering principles
• Develops, tests, and optimizes product design specifications
• Obtains cost quotes from vendors and determines feasibility of targets
• Manages outside vendors to develop product concept samples
• Interfaces with Asian Ops for samples, quotes & prototypes
• Manages bills of materials, product drawings, product specifications, agency testing results, and engineering change orders
• Coordinates pilot & production start-up
• Accountable for meeting in-stock dates
• Clearly communicates project status and issues to the team. Addresses issues effectively in a timely manner


Product Quality
• Works with cross-functional team to anticipate drivers of consumer appeal and deliver consistently
• Initiates product changes that deliver higher product reliability and customer satisfaction.

• Supports Supply Chain in the identification of cost reduction opportunities
• Participate in, as well as lead, team meetings
• Compliance to regulatory practices and laws
• Protection of intellectual property


• B.S. in Engineering, Product Development, or Mechanical Engineering Technology


Work Experience
• Preferred 2 or more years’ experience working in multi-disciplinary teams (technical, design, and manufacturing) on the conception, development and launch of consumer products
• Preferred 1 or more years experience in product design or engineering
• Preferred 1 or more years’ experience in Asian manufacturing process design and set-up for the production of high-volume mass-market products

• Working knowledge of Computer Aided Design – SolidWorks
• Demonstrated Experience in Business Process Improvement (BPI)

Other relevant information (hours, travel etc)
• Willing to participate and lead conference call with Asia team outside of normal work hours
• Willing to travel up to 10% of the time, includes international travel.
